An “inspired and inspiring” look into what makes great non-profits great. The authors spent four years surveying thousands of nonprofits, ranging from Habitat to Humanity to Self-Help, and in their journey they conducted hundreds of interviews and shadowed the CEOs of these organizations. The book centers on twelve ‘high-impact‘ non-profits, and reveals 6 powerful practices that they all share. Their stories reveal that most successful organizations spend just as much time “working outside their four walls as they do managing their internal operations”. By finding creatives ways to go outside the box and enlist the help of others, these organizations, in the process, also engage these other organizations in a common cause of social change. By working with and through organizations and individuals outside of themselves, high-impact nonprofits can reach more and more people; the two authors do a great job of backing up this point through their research in this well written book.
