With media and magazines, it is a cinch to get caught up in comparison. We might wish we looked like someone else or were the most outgoing rather than a silent contemplator.
In my work as an executive coach, I often use the Gallup StrengthsFinder Assessment with my clients to help reboot this habit. The assessment allows people to answer some simple questions and find out what their strengths are versus those qualities which aren’t your strong suits.
Forbes reminds us in this quote how easy it is to forget to value what strengths we have residing within us. Not all of us are meant to be the gregarious speaker standing in front of thousands…nor are all of us meant to be mathematicians or dancers. We all possess a unique blend of skills and talents just waiting to be accentuated and built upon.
Part of my work, when coaching teams and organizations, involves nurturing that which resides within each individual person and making that work to its fullest potential rather than striving to gain qualities we do not currently possess.
It is a simple perspective to take and very helpful. I encourage you to see how you are valuing those strengths you have already and maximizing them! I offer a free StrengthsFinder Assessment and Coaching session for those of you who aren’t sure just what your strengths are. Feel free to sign up for an assessment if you would like to find out what strengths you can build upon!
p.s. I always am interested in what you think about these discussions. Please post your thoughts on the blog…your constructive criticism and support is appreciated!
