Leadership isn’t a position held just by those who hold a title ; it is a position held by all of us.
Within our families, communities and careers each of us can choose to be a leader. In our interactions and in the decisions we make we can be inspiring role models for others. I am always surprised to hear back from people that I worked with as a young social worker in the field about the things that I did or said that made a difference in their lives. Trust me, the things that you say and do do make a difference in the lives of others.
To be a strong leader, a dedication to learning is essential. Every day new information on leadership development helps us to understand how we all can be better leaders, develop stronger teams and build positivity in our personal and work lives. A fundamental aspect of utilizing all this new information is appreciatively observing ot
hers. Asking the question: What do people you admire do well?
Being a strong leader also means being curious. Read some of the books I recommend in the Leader’s Library–you will get great ideas about the effective ways people and organizations are responding to the changes we all are facing. Leaders are not born, they are made through experience, learning from mistakes and the lifelong pursuit of creating solutions for the greater good.
