Day 9 Goods for a Cause: Heifer International

A Hand-Up not a Hand-Out from Heifer International

A Hand-Up not a Hand-Out from Heifer International

This is what Heifer International believes:By giving families a hand-up, not just a hand-out, we empower them to turn lives of hunger and poverty into self-reliance and hope.”

Heifer International gives what they call “living loans,” because in exchange for the livestock and training that families have gotten from Heifer International, they agree to give one of its animal’s offspring to another family in need.  What a win-win!

The Heifer recipients improve their own nutrition, develop a sustainable income and help another family get started!

Two years ago I bought my nephews and niece farm animals from Heifer International for Christmas.  I wasn’t sure that these teenagers would be so thrilled with this gift, but they are cool people that have been raised by my sister to want to do good works in the world.  The Hiefer International gift certificates were a hit in the Herrington household.  And I loved being able to support Hiefer with their gifts.

Follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

We would love to hear what you think about Heifer International and the Goods for a Cause Holiday Blog!  You won’t want to miss Day 10 — Andrew Carnegie was inspired by Heifer International (at age eight!) to start his Goods for a Cause Organization:  Hats for Hunger.

Appreciatively,

Lynn
